New Orleans Saints Mock Draft
National Football League Mock Draft • 2026 Season
New Orleans Saints Draft Analysis
New Orleans went 6-11 and finds itself in a transitional phase with second-year quarterback Tyler Shough needing more weapons around him. The Saints addressed the backfield by signing Travis Etienne Jr. and retaining Alvin Kamara, effectively taking running back off the draft board. Guard David Edwards was also added on the offensive line. But the receiving corps remains thin behind Chris Olave, with Devaughn Vele's 25 receptions the next-best option, and the defense still lacks a game-changing pass rusher and a replacement for cornerback Alontae Taylor, who left for Tennessee.
At No. 8, several directions make sense. Carnell Tate is the cleanest offensive fit, as his route-running polish and ability to win at all three levels would immediately upgrade the passing game and form a dangerous tandem with Olave. Alternatively, Rueben Bain Jr. from Miami could fill the long-standing need for an elite edge rusher. Bain's 23.5 percent pass-rush win rate led all draft-eligible Power Four edge defenders, and his relentless motor and ability to collapse the pocket from multiple alignments would give the Saints a true defensive anchor. Caleb Downs is the wild card as the consensus No. 1 overall prospect on some boards. Since veteran safety Julian Blackmon is on a one-year deal, Downs could step in immediately and become the defensive leader New Orleans has been missing. In an NFC South that remains wide open, the Saints cannot afford another year of standing still.
